... Is Really How We Feel

Today's post should have absolutely been about the awesomeness that was the VMAs. We're not gonna lie -- after a few years of so-so shows, we really liked yesterday's. We were totally planning to write about the VERY cool tribute to Michael Jackson featuring his music videos on the big screen with live dancers performing in front of the screen. It was brilliant and whoever thought of it is a genius. We WERE going to write about that.

That is, until Kanye West decided to personify the word ASSHAT and do what he did to poor Taylor Swift. In case you live under a rock on planet lame, basically Taylor was awarded the first VMA of the night for Best Female Video, she went on the stage to accept her award, said something like "I've always dreamed of winning one of these but I never thought it would really happen," then promptly had her microphone stolen by Kanye West (literally) who announced he thought Beyonce (also nominated) should have won.

Now, we know attention is all this guy wants, so on one hand, we're mad at ourselves for even posting about this. But frankly, we have to. Because we're pissed.

We have never been fans of Kanye West. Like ever. Search his name on this blog and you will not find anything even remotely nice. But literally this just took the cake. Taylor Swift won her award fair and square, and what's more, she's a teenager AND she's never been mean to anyone. What. a. jerk.

Skhjggjhla;skgjhasl;gkjdklsgjals; is really how we feel. Like there are no words to describe what an utter a-hole this guy is. Obviously, we're not the only people who think this, and several celebs have come to Taylor's defense.

Says Kelly Clarkson, "I think we’re all just curious as to what would make a grown man go on national television and make a talented artist, let alone teenager, feel like shit. I mean, I’ve seen you do some pretty shitty things, but you just keep amazing me with your tactless, asshole ways. It’s absolutely fascinating how much I don’t like you. I like everyone. I even like my asshole ex that cheated on me over you…which is pretty odd since I don’t even personally know you. The best part of this evening is that you weren’t even up for THIS award and yet you still have a problem with the outcome. Is winning a moon man that much of a life goal?? You can have mine if it will shut you up. Is it that important, really??"

Says Donald Trump, "He couldn't care less about Beyonce. It was grandstanding to get attention."

Says Pink, "Kanye West is the biggest piece of shit on earth."

For herself, sweet Taylor said, "I don't know him, and I've never met him, so… I don't want to start anything because I had a great night tonight."

(Update: When you finish reading this post, we sincerely recommend you read Colleen's comment. She makes a lot of good points and it's definitely worth reading.)

As someone who who likes Kanye's music and who has seen him in concert, I try to get past his utter lack of regard for the rest of the human race.

I let it go when he attacked the president, i let it go when he said he was never coming back to the vmas(wish he wouldv'e kept that promise), i let it go when he proclaimed himself the greatest artist of this generation and i let it go when i paid money to see him in concert and he started grandstaning about who the hell knows what.

However, I can not let it go now that he has taken advantage Taylor Swift. She is basically a child and it was evident that she was in no position to defend herself against that man, if you can call him that. He took advantage of the situation because he could, just another moment for him to be in the spotlight. Beyonce certainly doesn't need him fighting her battles and I suspect his outburst really had little to even do with Beyonce and her video.

I have no regard for people who treat other people without dignity and respect and Kanye did just that. I must say that after last night, I am now a former fan.

Ugh, I really have to agree with the post and Colleen's comments. No one loved Kanye more than me (except probably Kanye himself), and I have forgiven him for a lot of the crazy things he has done. But, treating Taylor Swift like that was bascially like stepping on the nicest, sweetest, kitten of a person there is. Kanye really is an asshole and I think his career is going to take a huge hit from this.
